A busy year…

12/23/2021

2021 has been a very busy year for us with the number of dogs rescued and the number of dogs who’ve been adopted. We’ve seen over 100 adoptions this year which more than doubles last year! We sent more than 65 dogs abroad to find/ go straight to their forever homes with June & July being the busiest months (15 flights out)!

We’d like to thank all of our supporters who have helped us this year, we couldn’t do what we do without your support 💖

A big shoutout to the MDA team for everything they’ve done this year and especially to Liz who has worked her socks off! Liz, your commitment to the dogs is unmatched! Please never leave!!!

We would like to wish those of you who celebrate it a Happy Christmas 🎄 and Happy Holidays to everyone else! 🥳

Our five rescue dogs leave for the USA!

10/2/2019

We are currently preparing five of our rescue wadi dogs to leave for the USA on the 17th October. The GoFundMe helped us to fund half of the dog's travel costs and the rescue in the USA kindly funded the other half. We were blown away by the kindness and generosity of the supporters who donated through the GoFundMe! We would have struggled so much without those kind donations!

The last blog mentioned three dogs but we were lucky for the rescue to accept another two! The five lucky dogs who will be leaving us are; Bella, Lucy, Ruby, Max & Chimba. They will all be flying to New York and into the care of Greyhound Friends of New Jersey :) We are so grateful to have partnered up with this rescue, it has really helped us to help more dogs. The two dogs we sent to their wonderful rescue in August (Jake & Peggysue were both adopted after about ten days which was just amazing! We're hoping these five have similar luck to Jake & Peggysue in finding their forever homes!

We will be sure to keep everyone updated about their progress! :)

Help us to get Bella, Ruby & Lucy to the USA!

From top to bottom: Bella, Ruby & Lucy

These three beautiful wadi dogs will be leaving us next month to go to Greyhound Friends Of New Jersey for a better chance of finding their forever homes. Bella has been at the pound for nearly 18 months with not one person asking about adopting her in that time. Ruby was only brought to the pound last week where she stayed for one night and is now in a foster home. She's a very lucky dog as foster homes are hard to find especially straightaway! Bella & Ruby are both originally TNR dogs who managed to live on the streets by being fed by their local communities. However, both dogs had also received complaints from some not so happy members of the local community so they came to the pound for their own safety.

Lucy has always been a stray and came to us in January with her litter of eight pups. The streets are not a safe place for any mother dog trying to look after her pups. Six of her pups flew to New York last month and are safe in the care of Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption in New Hampshire. It is now Lucy's turn to find her forever home. She has really improved in confidence and relaxed a lot around the volunteers, and she was seen today playing for the first time with her new doggy pals Max and Chimba! Lucy is a really sweet girl and will flourish in a foster home so she is going to America for her chance of finding her foster and then forever home. If she stays in Muscat, she will be waiting a long time :(

If you would like to donate towards getting these dogs on their way, please click on the following link. Any donation to help these dogs get to America is gratefully received!!

We will be posting regular updates about these three lovely dogs and hopefully they will find their forever homes soon!

Thank you!

Suzie & Duffy's new start!

This picture shows Duffy & Suzie back in 2017 when they were rescued for the second time :(
Suzie's rescue story first started when she was brought to the pound by our volunteer Laura Gray in 2013. Suzie was just a puppy a couple of months old and was found by Laura with her mum and three litter siblings. It is thought her mum did have a home but was kicked out when she gave birth to her pups and Laura then found them trying to keep safe huddled under a car. :(

Little is known about Duffy's rescue story other than he too was rescued as a puppy and brought to the pound in 2013. Duffy and Suzie actually share the same (estimated) birthday despite not being litter brother and sister! They have always shared a kennel since they were very young and are therefore very bonded.

In 2016, it seemed that after four years at the pound, both dogs had got lucky and found their forever home together! They lived happily for some time as part of a family enjoying family life. Duffy especially loved his time spent with the family as he loves kids and getting attention in general so it was extremely hard for them when the family split up and left Muscat. Suzie & Duffy were supposedly being taken care of by the father of the family, but one of our volunteers heard about the situation and went to investigate. It was then that she found the dogs living under a porta cabin with no food, water or bedding and their collars had been removed so it looked as though they had been abandoned and left to fend for themselves once again :( :( Our volunteer went to a nearby supermarket to buy them food (seen eating in the picture), water and belts to use as a collar. After a feed, she put them in her car and brought them back to the pound where they have been ever since (over two years now). They get continuously overlooked by potential adopters despite being such loving dogs. There have been many times I have sat in their kennel with tears in my eyes and feeling desperately sad for them for being constantly overlooked while other dogs came and left. They were both however oblivious to my tears and just happy to have me to lean against and scratch their belly.

Anyway, the good news is that they have both been accepted to go to a kennel free dog rescue in the UK!! :) We are so thrilled for them as Duffy hates the kennel environment and Suzie is a shy girl who needs bringing out of her shell. This dog rescue sounds perfect for them both and they get to go TOGETHER!! We're keeping everything crossed that they have more luck over there than they have had in Oman and they find their forever homes quickly. These two deserve nothing but the best life and we can't wait to see them living life as part of a loving family! :) They fly on the 8th August with flight buddies Martin & Fiona! - (Thank you both for being their flight buddies and for your kind donation towards their travels) :) We wish Suzie & Duffy all the best for this new chapter of their lives and will have updates to follow...

Ellie is also leaving us this month. She's all booked onto her flight to Amsterdam on the 27th August and will be flying with Nikki Delve and Nikki's own two dogs! Nikki was also the flight buddy for our lovely Annie who flew to the UK in June and was officially adopted yesterday! (Thank you once again Nikki!)

Ellie is going to live in Somerset with her new mum Kim! :)

We'll be posting updates of her in her new home later in the month!
